Hosted by Professor Lorna Hutson, Director of CEMS Oxford, this event assesses the state of the field of early modern women’s writing. Speakers include Professor Rosalind Smith (ANU CEMS), Professor Danielle Clarke (UCD and IRS), Dr Elizabeth Scott-Baumann (KCL and LRS) and Professor Sarah Ross, with Professor Virginia Cox (Cambridge), Professor Diane Purkiss (Oxford) and Professor Ros Ballaster as their interlocutors. Key questions include: how has the study of early modern women changed early modern literary history? Is the canon still a shaping force? How much do constructions of gender matter in the study of literature? This event is also the first for the ICCEMS consortium.
