ANU Centre for Early Modern Studies
The Centre for Early Modern Studies at the Australian National University brings together a vibrant multidisciplinary group of humanities scholars and graduate researchers who study the long early modern period (1450-1800). Our research and teaching areas include history, art and design, literary and bibliographical studies, theatre and performance history, languages and historical linguistics, and the digital humanities.
Oxford Centre for Early Modern Studies
Oxford’s Centre for Early Modern Studies is an interdisciplinary hub for Oxford Humanities researchers working in the period 1500-1800 across different languages and regions of the world. Oxford CEMS hosts faculty members and postgraduate students from fifteen departments who are interested in the various aspects of early modernity in Europe and beyond. The departments include the Bodleian Library, Classics Faculty, Department of Continuing Education, English Faculty, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (AMES), French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese (Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages), History, History of Art, Music, Philosophy, and Theology.
Irish Renaissance Seminar
The Irish Renaissance Seminar (IRS) is part of the School of Arts, English and Languages at Queen’s University, Belfast, Ireland. The IRS participates in or organises events, workshops, seminars and courses and monitors the Shakespeare in Ireland blog, an academic blog of early modern events and research in Ireland.
London Renaissance Seminar
The London Renaissance Seminar (LRS) at Birkbeck, University of London is a discussion forum for examining all aspects of early modern history, literature and culture. The LRS meets regularly at Birkbeck during term time, with Saturday seminars, events and conferences. The LRS welcomes academics and students with an interest in early modern culture and is open to the submission of papers and suggestions for panels.
Paris Early Modern Seminar
PEMS is an inter-university seminar which meets monthly at the Bibliothèque interuniversitaire de la Sorbonne. University partners include –

FISIER (Fédération Internationale des Sociétés et Instituts pour l’Étude de la Renaissance)
FISIER (Fédération Internationale des Sociétés et Instituts pour l’Étude de la Renaissance) is an international collective of early modern organisations from across Europe, the USA, Canada and the UK. FISIER aims to support studies on the Renaissance period internationally by promoting exchanges between learned societies and research centres around the world, coordinating international meetings, and supporting collective projects.
Folger Institute, Folger Shakespeare Library, Washington, DC, USA
The Folger Institute is a center for advanced research in the early modern humanities at the Folger Shakespeare Library. Founded in 1970, the Institute gathers interdisciplinary communities of scholars for collections-based research. The Institute sets agendas, models best practices, and tests new methods for scholarship. Together with colleagues around the Folger, the Institute seeks to bring public audiences together with scholarly ones as we discover more about the cultures and legacies of the early modern world.
Early Modern World at Harvard
Early Modern World at Harvard is a multi-disciplinary group composed of faculty, graduate students, and visiting researchers who study the historical traditions of early modernity across the globe. EMW serves scholars, librarians, archivists, curators, and digital specialists working across departments and units, recognizing shared goals and fostering opportunities for collaboration in research, teaching, and public engagement.
